TeXniscope
(v0.3.4 - Dic. 2004)
TeXniscope is a DVI/PDF previewer for MacOSX.
It has a simple user
interface and it is capable of synchronization (forward/backward) with
an external editor (e.g. Emacs) both
for DVI files (using the src-ltx package) and PDF files (using the
pdfsync package).
Out of the box it works with teTeX (installed through Gerben Wierda's
iInstaller) and Emacs
(Enhanced Carbon Emacs). However it can be configured to work with
other installations (give a look at the Preferences and at the
Help). In particular Alpha support has been added (thanks to Joachim Kock).
The program is still in his beta development (currently v0.3). However
it is already usable. The DVI
files are internally translated to PDF using an embedded version of dvipdfmx and then feed through the Quartz PDF rendering routines.
The current version (v0.3) does not work in OSX 10.2.
Features:
- Hyperlinks and PDF outline support (basic).
- Syncronization (forward/backward, both in DVI and PDF) with AppleScript
interface.
- A basic zoom window can be activated with Control-Click.
- Every preview window can be splitted in two independed views
(only the lower one is activated by the forward search).
- Copy selection (export in PDF format). The selection rectangle
can be set-up with Alt-Click, drag corners to resize, drag inside to
move. To copy
Command-C as usual.
- Support double-page and multi-page modes.
- Preview is updated (if necessary) when the document window is
activated. Refreshing of the current document can be forced
with Command-R (configurable)
and with AppleScript. Periodic automatic refreshing is also available
(with a default period of 2 sec).
- As a last resort DVI files are translated in PDF (stored in a
temporary file) with dvipdf (the distiller can be configured) and
displayed. Syncronization is not available when the external distiller
is used.
- Display syncronization marks when available.
- Shows TeX internal page numbering (when present in the DVI file).
This
is useful when physical and document page numbering does not coincide.
However "Goto Page" command works with physical page numbers.
- Preview PS files by converting to PDF using a configurable
distiller (defaults: ps2pdf).
- User configurable key bindings.
- Continuous scrolling with the mouse.
- Custom default magnification.
Known issues:
- Any shortcoming of dvipdfmx: e.g. cannot handle pstricks specials.
- Syncronization is not available when the external distiller
is used.
