We do understand and share the concerns of several registrants regarding international
situation after the terrrorist attack to US.
However, the "conference train" (including reservation of venue site and attendands' hotels,
which could hardly be refunded in case of postponement) was already at "full steam" at the time
of the attack, and stopping it would be very awkward. Besides, though we share the worries for the
near future, very sadly there is no evidence that international situation would improve in the middle
term, so we are afraid that any postponement will result finally in a cancellation.
Therefore, after a painful reflection, jointly with Ram Shah, the president of the Assembly,
we decided to hold the conference at the scheduled date.
Let us also point out that, as you all know, Greece is member of European Community, and so far the
situation here is definitely more calm than it could appear from other continents.
At present, hoping for a peaceful world in the near future would be definitely too much optimistic.
We at least hope that after the emotion of the first hours everybody can turn back to his own
activity, including attending a conference.
While we share the solidarity and the mourning for so many innocent victims,
we do realize that after a so terrible event is very difficult for everybody
to turn back his attention to everyday business, including the organization of a scientific
and social event like an international conference.
We do hope that the flight connections will be efficently
restored this week, that you all could safely attend the conference
and share with us a serene discussion.
