Abstract
Nowadays all network segments, from metro to core, from access to aggregation, are converging towards an all IP world where photonics is playing a more and more important role in proving reachability between routers. In this context a tight integration between packet and optical networks is a key feature vendors and service providers are striving for.
Goal of the course is providing an introduction to the packet-opto integration work being carried on in IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) particularly focusing on optical control plane design and overlay interfaces. Moreover an overview on SDNs (Software Defined Networks) will be provided both in the IETF and ONF (Open Networking Foundation) standardization bodies with particular focus on the packet-optical integration aspects.
