• Traffic processes. Transient and steady state behavior of renewal point processes. The Renewal Integral Equation and the Key Renewal Theorem. Regenerative stochastic processes and their steady-state probabilistic behavior.
• General results for regenerative stochastic queueing processes, including Little's Formula; system size, delay and throughput functions and their interrelations. Overview of discrete time and continuous time Markov chains.
• Overview of queueing system models and analyses of Markovian queueing systems. The M/G/1 queueing system model and its performance analysis. System size, waiting time and busy period behavior.
• Markov-Renewal, semi-Markov and semi-Regenerative stochastic processes. Modeling and performance analyses; steady state behavior. Illustrative applications: queueing and networking systems.
• Priority queueing systems. Performance results. Conservation laws. Queueing network models and analysis results. Application to the performance analysis of computer communications network systems.
• Applications to the design, control and performance modeling and analysis of mobile wireless networks. Illustrative topics to be selected from the following: adaptive power and rate scheduling for mobile ad hoc wireless networks; integrated adaptive rate (including the dynamic selection of modulation-coding schemes) and dynamic routing for such networks; mobile backbone ad hoc wireless networks; energy aware (bps/watt) performance; adaptive rate cross-layer random access and WiFi networks; adaptive rate, power, scheduling, and spectral reuse allocations (interference control) for uplink and downlink transport in next generation cellular wireless networks (such as multimedia LTE network systems); adaptive rate / power networking for sensor networks.
